ENHANCED ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT FOR US EPA:

EPA Region 8, EEA, Cucharas River Valley, Cuchara, Colorado.

(A developer wanted to build a waste water treatment plant in a narrow mountainous valley. The inhabitants of the valley contested the need for a treatment plant. The developer insisted that human waste was contaminating the alluvial aquifer. The US EPA was forced to conduct a study. If a problem was found, then the community would be eligible for federal funds to build a waste water treatment plant.)

	Phoenix-Goodyear-Airport (Litchfield Army Airfield), Goodyear, Arizona . The facility was responsible for aircraft maintenance and experimenting with paints.	Job Assignment/Title: Hydrogeologist Duties: • Collect and log subsurface soil samples. • Supervise the installation of monitoring, extraction, and injection wells. • Prepare plans for slug test of vadose zone injection wells and aquifer pump tests of remediation recovery wells. • Conduct and analyze aquifer pump test data from monitoring wells in this desert alluvial type aquifer to locate ancient buried river channels in alluvial basin. • Audit operations. Contaminants of concern: TCE, 1,2-DCA, xylene, cadmium, chromium, jet fuel; field operations performed in level D.
	SunarHauserman, Cleveland, Ohio	Job Assignment/Title: Manage Field Operations & Hydrogeologist Duties: • Supervise four employees and one subcontractor company. • Determine and survey well placement. • Collect and log subsurface soil samples. • Supervise monitoring well installation. • Prepare paperwork, and samples for laboratory. • Collect groundwater samples. During the investigation a high concentration of contamination was discovered beneath a confining layer. Steps were taken to prevent cross contamination to the upper aquifer. ICF Kaiser received commendations from the State of Ohio for this work. From triangulation of groundwater movement and through a search of historical records the contamination was found to originate from a chemical plant that was destroyed in an explosion in the 1950's. Contaminants of concern: Wood preservatives, TCE, PCE, TCA, DCA, DCE, toluene, petroleum hydrocarbons; field operations performed in level B, C and D.

	Florida DOT, I-95 and Davie Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, Florida	Job Assignment/Title: Field Manager & Hydrogeologist Manage field investigation and operations to assess extent of petroleum contamination: Conduct soil gas survey; determine placement of boreholes and wells; supervise monitoring well installation; collect and log subsurface soil samples; conduct modified aquifer pump test and slug tests; analyze the data; prepare cross sections, groundwater contour maps and hydrogeochemical maps; and write report. 	Rocky Mountain Arsenal, Denver, Colorado	Job Assignment/Title: Engineering Geologist Duties: • Conduct a geotechnical investigation to determine if any special arrangements were implemented in the selection of a backfill material around sewer lines installed in 1942. • Examine grain size distribution, the angularity of the grains, and mineral composition of the backfill material. • Assess the procedures used in the installation of the backfill around the sewer lines associated with the chemical processing facilities on site. 	Hastings, Nebraska, North Landfill (US EPA Region 7, ARCS)	Job Assignment/Title: Hydrogeologist Duties: • Evaluate hydrogeologic and contaminant data extracted from previous investigations. • Prepare the site characterization and contaminant migration report; including cross sections, groundwater contour maps and hydrogeochemical maps. 	Onondaga Junk Yard, Onondaga, New York	Job Assignment/Title: Assistant Geophysicist Duties: • Assist in GPR and EM-31 surveys to determine if any metal was left behind after clean up; discovered1800's buried railroad trestle.
	PJP Landfill, Jersey City, New Jersey (New Jersey DEP contract)	Job Assignment/Title: Hydrogeologist Duties: • Collect surface water, sediment and leachate samples. • Study effects of chemicals migrating from landfill into adjacent wetlands and tidal areas. • Analyze results; and prepare report and chemical distribution maps illustrating the effect of tidal action on these chemicals in surface water around the landfill. 	Springfield 'Old'Landfill, Springfield, Vermont (US EPA Region 1, RI/FS)	Job Assignment/Title: Hydrogeologist Duties: • Collect and log subsurface soil samples. • Supervise monitoring well installation. • Collect groundwater samples. The objective was to locate and differentiate between the different holding areas of an old landfill buried under a clay cap in which a mobile park community resided. Areas included the acid ponds, the drum storage area with PCB laden oil, the trash area and the buried glacial channel that ran beneath the site. Contaminants of concern: PCB's, petroleum hydrocarbons, methane; field operations performed in level C and D.

	York County Landfill Authority, York, Pennsylvania Landfill located on top of a mountain; apex to four drainage basins. 	Eagle Mine, Consolidated Tailings Pile-Maloit Park Wetland, Minturn, Colorado (US EPA Region 8, ARCs contract)	Job Assignment/Title: Hydrogeologist Duties: • Review existing hydrogeologic data to assess data gaps. • Assess impact of groundwater passing through tailings pile into a nearby wetlands and towards a drinking water supply well. • Prepare hydrogeologic sections Site Characterization and Contaminant Migration Report. • Prepare cross sections, groundwater contour maps, and hydrogeochemical maps. 	PPG Solution Salt Mine, Barberton, Ohio	Job Assignment/Title: Hydrogeologist Duties: • Observe and monitor closure of deep solution brine wells suspected of having hazardous material injected into the mine workings.
